Alejandra Ochoa de Thompson Co-Founder of Thompson Traders is the creative master mind behind our exceptional sinks. She comes from a small town in central Mexico and grew up surrounded by copper. Mrs. Thompson has been able to combine her historical roots with contemporary needs. Copper is such a rich metal and she loves the fact that it is ageless. To Alejandra it is amazing that with air, water, earth and fire, copper becomes a piece of art. She creates sinks that last forever not something disposable.

“I love copper, the copper itself motivates me,” to create incredible designs, said Alejandra. She is also inspired by items from her past. For example, the Nest sink was created by mimicking her grandmother’s gold filigree earrings. This sink became such a refined and elegant piece. Her designs are tied to her roots and past traditions but directed to the future. She finds inspiration every where; in nature, architecture, her travels, art, etc which is reflected through out our bathroom sink collections. Alejandra has succeeded in taking copper to the next level through her incredible designs and superior finishes. She has created jewelry for your bathroom and kitchen.

Eight percent of infections are spread by touch and 1 in 20 patients admitted to a hospital in the US will contract an illness from a touch surface. An infected hand will contaminate another 7 surfaces. 100,000 people die yearly in the US from these bugs.

Did you know that copper is antimicrobial and will kill many of these deadly bacteria? In a side-by-side study conducted at South Hampton University (see link below) MRSA, a bacterial infection that is highly resistant to some antibiotics, was spread on copper and stainless steel. After 10 minutes there were visibly no germs left on the copper, whereas on stainless steel there was no change in the number of living bacteria. Infections can live on stainless steel for weeks even months. On copper they begin to die on contact.

So why not add a little copper to your kitchen or bathroom to make it a healthier and safer environment, it’s hard not to with research findings like the ones above. For more fascinating information on anti-microbial copper follow the link: http://wwww.antimicrobialtouchsurface.com/
